Q.S.D.R. has successful outing in Bristol

Q.S.D.R. has another successful outing in Thunder Valley.

April 23, 2012

The LeeBoy crew arrived in Bristol on Thursday with great anticipation. Bristol is steep in drag racing history and Quain has raced there since his early teens. The ADRL was making its debut at Thunder Valley and Stott was ready to take the stage.

Rain on Saturday would eventually cancel the 4th round of qualifying, leaving the teams with only three shots at making the field. Stott slightly overpowered the track in session one resulting in a 3.89 and landed him in the #13 position. Quain would work his tune up magic and return in session two for a 3.70 run at 202 m.p.h. This moved him up the # 5 spot in the Pro Extreme field. Session three produced another good run at 3.71 and eventually landed him in the # 6 position on the P/X eliminations ladder.

The first round of eliminations would pair him against Terry Leggett. Due to the rain, the LeeBoy team was now facing a newly prepped track and a tough opponent. The crew was now in race mode and had the LeeBoy Corvette tuned up for a strong run. Quain felt that he was on a good solid pass until it spun the tires around the 100 foot mark resulting in a loss to Leggett.

Stott is now preparing for the next ADRL event at Maple Grove Raceway. Quain has a goal of solidly qualifying in the field for every event this year. This is the second race of 2012 and he has been in the top half of the field at both events. "We are excited about 2012 and plan to get better with every run."

Quain Stott Drag Racing claims success in Houston

Q.S.D.R. was pleased with the overall results from the Carsafe Dragpalooza VIII event. Stott showed up with his revamped 16 year old racecar and expectations of a successful weekend. This is Quain's former nitrous car that had a heart transplant to a blower years ago. The LeeBoy team only had one nonproductive test session under their belt before arriving in Houston.

Stott was plagued with various problems on two of his three qualifying attempts. The car shook hard on the first attempt leaving him outside of the field. Stott's second try resulted in a clean straight run at 3.73 @ 201 m.p.h. This landed them solidly in the Pro Extreme field at # 8. The car lost power shortly after the launch on the third qualifying run. With the field set, Quain would have to run #9 qualifier Dan Millen.

First round of eliminations brought a win to the Q.S.D.R. team. Millen broke, and Stott blasted off a nice straight run of 3.72 @ 203. Second round would prove to be a challenge as they would be paired up against #1 qualifier Alex Hoosler. "We knew that we had to step it up in order to run with those guys." Stott lost traction and had to lift as Hoosler streaked to a 3.69 win.

Quain will now return to his N.C. based shop to service his car and make preparations for the next event. The ADRL will be making its first appearance at the history filled Bristol Dragway and Stott has high hopes of an even more successful outing.

Quain Stott looking for a turn around in 2012

March 8, 2012
Quain Stott's turn around for 2012

Coming off the worse season of his 37 year career, Quain Stott is looking forward to a much better 2012 season. For many reasons unseen by the public eye, Stott's 2011 season was under a tremendous strain both personally and professionally. "I want to apologize to my sponsors and fans alike for a lackluster performance in 2011." "I now have the problems in my life rectified and I'm looking forward to a strong 2012 season."

Stott is bringing back a revamped version of a car he built some 15 years ago. "With the current state of our economy, I have to watch every penny." This car is a proven winner, having already carried Quain to countless race victories, the Car Craft All-Star Driver award, as well as the 2006 World championship. As you can imagine, it takes a lot of work to get an old car ready to race again. Greg Waldrop and Dee Bragg are helping as much as possible, but with their day jobs taking priority, it's been mostly a one man show at the shop. They have high hopes of debuting this car at Houston for the ADRL season opener.

Signing LeeBoy again was a huge relief for Stott. This season will make 16 years running for the partnership between Q.S.D.R and LeeBoy. Stott says he is "overly excited and grateful" and hopes for many many more years with LeeBoy. Q.S.D.R. has plans for a lot of new things in 2012. A new website, a facebook fan page (currently active), new crew shirts, driver handouts, and hopefully t-shirts for sale. These things along with some videos feeds from the shop and track will make it much more interactive for the fans, as well as bring more exposure for the sponsors. "2012 will be a great year for my sponsors, fans, and Q.S.D.R.!"

Q.S.D.R. partners with high performance companies like LeeBoy Equipment, Hoosier racing tires, NGK Sparkplugs, Auto Meter, Amalie Oil, Fulton racing Engines, and Spartan Crankshafts.

"Consistency is the most important thing in this sport, you have to go down the track to go rounds." Stott went down the track every run, with a string of runs in the 3.7 range.

Stott didn't have a easy time in eliminations matching up against Bubba Stanton the # 14 qualifier in the first round of eliminations Stott took the win running a 3.76 against Stanton's 3.86. In the second round of eliminations Stott found himself matched up with Jason Hamstra the #4 qualifier, Stott moved to the next round after running a 3.76 against Hamstra's 4.35. The third round of eliminations proved to be the nail biter as Stott found himself matched up against Frankie Taylor the #2 qualifier, Stott launched with a great light, and had to peddle it, but took the win running a 3.84, and having his competitor Frankie Taylor breaking a blower belt.

Stott piloted his 1963 LeeBoy Equipment split-window Corvette to the number 1 qualifying spot and raced his way into the final round. Stott fell short of victory by just .0215 seconds. His opponent Alex Hossler scored his first victory.

In semi-final action, Stott recorded a new personal best when he clocked in at the end of his eighth mile pass at 206.07 MPH (He also lowered his personal best e.t to 3.74 seconds the previous race in Rockingham). While Stott reeled off 3.7 second passes all through eliminations, he knows he let one get away in the final round. "Alex (Hossler) had been running strong all day," Stott said. "We stepped up the power for that final run. It was the right call, I just missed my shift point."

"I like driving the car - I like having my name on the side of the door," Stott chuckled. "Some of these cars should have the name of the electronics manufacture where the drivers name goes. I might lose a round here or there because I refuse to run all of those electronics, but if it says Quain Stott above the door - you can bet I'm driving it."

After struggling through 2008, in what would easily be considered his toughest season in two decades, Quain Stott is back in the groove that led him to much of the success he has enjoyed during his career. After spending most of 2008 in a research and development mode, Stott is back to his winning ways - as both a driver and a tuner.

"I was just being hard-headed," Stott admits about the 2008 season. "The stuff we had figured out on paper should have made the car faster. It just wouldn't work in racing conditions."

The revelation that had Stott removing thousands of dollars parts and more man hours than he would care to admit to, turned his LeeBoy Equipment team around late last season when he won the first race of the ADRL season (ADRL begins their season with a race at the end of the calendar year in Dallas).

Since that time, Stott has compiled an impressive 11-3 (.786 winning percentage) record in the past 4 events, including 1 win and 1 runner-up. The Ford Drive One Summer Drags V in Martin has been postponed for rain. Stott enjoyed a #2 qualifying position and has already won the opening round (this event will be concluded in Topeka). The 1963 LeeBoy Equipment Pro Extreme Corvette is currently second in ADRL points with six races yet to be decided.

The effort kept Stott in the number two position in the "Battle for the Belts" point standings.

"We were pretty happy with the results," Stott said. "We don't have many laps on this screw charger and we're still trying to figure it out."

Each of Stott's elimination passes were consistent and grew stronger as the event progressed (3.837, 3.795 and 3.775). Stott faced former teammate Tommy D'Aprile in round two action. Both D'Aprile and Stott had strong reaction times, with D'Aprile taking the slight advantage (.029 to Stott's .034).But it was Stott's horsepower and the LeeBoy Equipment Corvette taking the win light with a strong 3.795 pass to D'Aprile's 3.871.

Stott excited about new opportunities

HOUSTON - With 35 seasons of racing under his belt, 14 with IHRA which include a World Championship and top 10 finishes in each of those professional seasons, Quain Stott in an unlikely candidate for change.

Stott drives the LeeBoy Equipment sponsored Pro Extreme Corvette and is excited about racing new venues, making new fans and meeting more LeeBoy customers.

"This is an exciting time for our team," the Columbus, North Carolina based Stott said. "I like what Kenny [ADRL series president, Knowling] has been doing. Plus it gives me a chance to get back to my Outlaw Pro Mod roots full-time."

Stott has had plenty of success during his part-time schedule at ADRL races. He currently is holds the Highest Career Winning Percentage (23 wins - 6 losses - .793 average), tied for second in most career final rounds (5) and is second in career wins (4).

"We've had our fair share of success racing ADRL," Stott said. "I'm looking forward to mixing it up over here full-time. It's going to be an exciting season."

Stott struggles but finds hope

COLUMBUS, N.C. -- In the midst of what could be the most challenging drag racing season of his career, Quain Stott finds a reason to be optimistic. Stott, the 2006 Pro Modified World Champion and driver of the 1963 LeeBoy Equipment Corvette offers his no nonsense 'straight talk' style approach to the situation.

"I just want to apologize to LeeBoy, our fans, my crew and all of our associate sponsors," Stott said. "I'm not going to make excuses. It's one hundred percent my fault. If the car doesn't run good, it's the tuner's fault. My crew chief, Brandon Howard and Greg Waldrop, Dee Bragg and Cynthia have all done their jobs perfectly. There hasn't been one maintenance issue, not one piece has fallen off this car."

For all the frustration that Stott and his team have endured, specifically over the past five races, which include two DNQs and three first round losses, they have found hope for a brighter future. "I think we've finally pinpointed the problem," Stott said. "Sometimes you just have to slow down to go faster."

Stott pedals out of Maryland

MECHANICSVILLE, Md. - Quain Stott and his LeeBoy Equipment headed into Maryland with high hopes and expectations of winning rounds. The track that gave Stott a win in 2006 in route to his championship wasn't as kind in 2008.

"It was a tough race for us," Stott said. "We got the car qualified and then I just didn't have the right clutch set up to get past the first round."

Stott faced Thomas Patterson in round one, both would peddle their cars and recover to put in respectable runs, but Stott would fall short of beating Patterson to the finish line.

"So far it's been a tough year for us. We've got to figure out how to go a few rounds and get our feet back under us."
